Notices of passing
Death Notices
How death notices are published, found, and archived on Eternal Rest.
How do I publish a death notice?
Death notices are published and maintained by the verified funeral director responsible for the notice. Ask the funeral director handling the arrangements about publishing and any charges they apply.
Eternal Rest does not offer direct public death-notice submission. Public notices can be found by name, region, town and date; withdrawal removes public access.
What if the funeral is taking place outside Trinidad and Tobago?
Ask the funeral director handling the arrangements whether they can publish through an authorised Eternal Rest account. We do not offer an automated overseas invoicing or document-submission service.
You can publish one of the seven supported family notice types through /family-notices/new. A family notice is not a substitute for a verified death notice.
How do I find a specific death notice?
Use the homepage name search or /death-notices to find a full name, including first name and surname together. Advanced search adds separate first name, surname, maiden name, town, region and date-of-death filters. Combined filters must all match.
Search has no date restriction unless you choose one. Date-of-death filters include both chosen dates. Publication filters such as Today and Last 7 days use Trinidad & Tobago time and refer to when a notice was first published.
Bookmark filtered views you visit often. For example, /death-notices?county=San+Fernando always opens the latest notices from San Fernando.
How far back do your records go?
Search covers the notices currently published on Eternal Rest. We do not claim a complete historical register or a verified archive start date. The end of a funeral does not by itself remove its death notice; withdrawn notices are unavailable.
Where do I see the most recently published notices?
The Death Notices page lists notices with the most recently published first. The homepage shows the complete number of new notices in the preceding 168 hours as “new notices in the past 7 days”. This is a rolling period, not a calendar week.
Leaving a message
Condolences
How condolence books work on each death notice.
Has my condolence been published?
Condolences are reviewed before publication. Submission confirmation means the message was received for review, not that it is already public. Review times vary.
The name limit is 100 characters and the message limit is 2,000 characters, including spaces and punctuation. Preview your message before confirming submission. Links are not accepted.
Where do I find the condolence book for a notice?
Open the Condolences link on a public death notice to read its approved messages. The funeral director controls whether text and photo contributions are open, independently. A closed book can still show its approved content.
How long does the condolence book stay open?
New contributions close at the closing time shown on the notice, or earlier if disabled by the funeral director. The default period is eight weeks from publication. Closing contributions does not remove approved messages or photos: they remain readable and printable while the notice is public.
Can I print or save the condolences?
Open the condolence book and choose Print to print or save a PDF through your browser. Approved text and photos are included; wait for the print view to finish loading. An image that cannot be loaded is identified rather than silently omitted.
Why do some notices have no online condolences?
Some families choose not to open an online condolence book — condolences are still given in person at the wake, the funeral home, or the church. A notice without online condolences does not mean no one paid their respects.
Acknowledgements, anniversaries, and more
Family Notices
Family-published notices to remember a loved one or thank those who supported you.
How do I publish a family notice?
Click Publish a Family Notice (or go to /family-notices/new). Then:
- Choose the type of notice you want to publish (Acknowledgement, Anniversary, Anniversary Wall, Month's Mind, Memorial Mass, Birthday Memorial, or Memorial Service).
- Add the loved one's details — name, honorific, dates, and an optional photo.
- Write your notice. You can start from a template or write your own.
- Preview and pay by credit or debit card.
You do not need an account to publish a family notice. The price depends on the type you choose and is shown on the first step of the Create flow. Once payment is received and the notice has been reviewed, it appears in the Family Notices section.
Can I save a notice and finish later?
Yes. Use Save as draft and wait for the saved confirmation. Continue a saved notice opens drafts available to your signed-in account or this device. Keep an anonymous notice's private resume link somewhere private; anyone with that link can access it. Never send the link to support or post it publicly. A save conflict lets you review the saved version before choosing which text to keep.
What happens if payment is cancelled or cannot be confirmed?
Your saved notice is preserved. Return to its payment status and use the recovery control. Editing resumes only after payment is confirmed safely unpaid; a cancelled browser page alone does not prove that. If payment is still processing or unknown, wait for reconciliation rather than creating another purchase. Rejection or takedown does not mean a refund has completed; the status page shows the verified refund outcome.
What happens after I pay for a family notice?
Every family notice on Eternal Rest is read by our team before it appears on the site. We do this to protect families against errors and impersonation, and to keep the tone of the section consistent.
Payment is verified before review. Review times vary. We prepare confirmation and decision emails for the address you used at checkout; delivery can be delayed or fail. Your saved notice's payment status shows the current confirmed outcome.
If your notice is rejected or taken down, contact info@eternalrest.com.tt to discuss it. A decision does not automatically issue a refund. Any refund is shown as completed only after the payment provider confirms it; check your saved notice's payment status for the outcome.
What types of family notice are there?
There are seven types on Eternal Rest:
- Acknowledgement — your family's public thank-you, with a permanent approved detail page while it remains public.
- Anniversary — remembers a loved one on the anniversary of their passing.
- Anniversary Wall — an anniversary notice with a message wall entitlement of 365 days from first publication, unless closed earlier.
- Month's Mind — announces a Mass or gathering held about a month after the funeral.
- Memorial Mass — announces a memorial Mass.
- Birthday Memorial — remembers a loved one on their birthday.
- Memorial Service — announces a non-religious memorial gathering or service.
All seven types have a permanent approved detail page while the notice remains public. Six types, including Acknowledgement, are listed for 35 days from first publication; Anniversary Wall is listed for 365 days. Listing expiry does not delete the detail page. Moderation, takedown or a payment issue can remove public access.
Can I link a family notice to the original death notice?
You can explicitly link a family notice to the eligible public death notice for the same person. Acknowledgement backlinks remain available while both notices are public; backlinks for the other six categories follow the family notice listing period. The funeral director can disable linked family notices on the death notice.
A withdrawn or demonstration death notice is unavailable as a public link. This does not by itself withdraw a genuine family notice.
How many photos can I add?
Anniversary Wall supports up to five photos, Anniversary up to three, and the other five types one. The editor shows the limit for your category. It accepts JPG, PNG and WebP files up to 5 MB each. Submitted images are checked and prepared for display.
Are there templates I can use?
The editor offers category-specific starting text and verse choices, including your own wording. Preview the selected layout before payment. Event categories also support the service information appropriate to that category.
What goes into an Acknowledgement?
An Acknowledgement is your family's public thank-you. People typically thank: neighbours, relatives, friends, and carers; those who sent flowers, Mass cards, letters, condolences, or gifts; those who attended the wake, funeral service, burial, or cremation; doctors, nurses, and hospice staff; clergy, celebrants, musicians, and soloists; local associations, clubs, and charity groups; parking marshals; and the funeral directors.
You can group your thanks using a simple Markdown convention in the notice text — start a group with ## Heading and list people under it with - name. The page renders each group as its own thanks card.
Light a candle
The Candle Wall
How candles work and where they show up across Eternal Rest.
What is the Candle Wall?
The Candle Wall is a public, nationwide grid of every death notice with at least one candle lit on it. You can filter by region, search by name, and sort by most recent or most candles. Visit it at /candle-wall.
How do I light a candle?
Select Light a candle on a notice, the homepage or Candle Wall. Confirmation appears after your candle is saved. You may then add a private name, separately request public display after review, or copy a private receipt link. You do not need an account.
Why can't I light a second candle right away?
There is a 60-second wait for another candle on the same notice from the same network. People sharing a household connection may share this wait. The displayed countdown tells you when to retry; it never gives someone else access to your signature.
Do candles ever go out?
Candle counts remain part of an available notice. The homepage highlights candles lit in the last fourteen days; the full Candle Wall uses its own current filters and sort order. Public signatures require separate permission and moderation, and can be withdrawn without removing the candle count.
Can I return to or remove my candle signature?
Keep the private receipt link to read or remove your signature for 30 days after lighting. You can edit it during the first ten minutes. Anyone with the link can manage that signature, so share it carefully. Removal hides the name and revokes the link without removing the candle count. After expiry, contact info@eternalrest.com.tt for privacy support. Emailing yourself one receipt is optional and does not subscribe you to marketing.
Anniversary Wall messages
Message Walls
How message walls work on family notices.
What is a message wall?
An Anniversary Wall includes a message wall where visitors can leave a short remembrance while it is open. Messages are reviewed before publication.
How long does an Anniversary Wall stay open?
An Anniversary Wall has a 365-day message entitlement from first publication, unless explicitly closed earlier. After closure, approved messages remain visible and printable while the notice remains public, but new messages cannot be added.
And for other notice types?
The other six notice types are listed for 35 days and keep their permanent approved detail pages while public. An interactive message wall is included with the Anniversary Wall type.
Can I print the messages on a wall?
Yes. A public Anniversary Wall has a Print messages link for its approved messages, including after ordinary wall closure. A withdrawn notice and its messages are not publicly available.
Finding what you need
Searching & Browsing
Can I browse notices by region?
Yes. The homepage hero includes an interactive map of Trinidad & Tobago — click any region to see its notices. The Death Notices listing also has a region filter with per-region counts.
Is there an advanced search?
Yes — visit /death-notices/search. Combine a full-name search with separate surname, first name, maiden name, region, town and inclusive date-of-death bounds. Search ignores case, accents and common punctuation; a surname-only field stays specific to the surname.
Can I bookmark a search?
Yes. Filters are stored in the URL, so you can bookmark /death-notices?q=mohammed&county=Port+of+Spain&range=week. Reopening it restores the filters against current records; relative date ranges move with the date. Family notices also keep their category, tab and archive choices in the URL.
Can I get an email alert when a new notice matches my search?
Sign in to save notices and searches privately in your account. Saving or editing a search does not subscribe you to email. When alerts are enabled for the service, you can separately opt in to a daily digest of newly published matches, scheduled for 08:00 Trinidad & Tobago time. Delivery may be delayed or unavailable.
Manage or stop alerts in your account. The unsubscribe link opens a confirmation page; an email client may also provide one-click unsubscribe. Saved searches continue to work without email consent.
Accounts & Funeral Directors
What can I save in my account?
A confirmed account can save up to 1,000 notices and 50 searches. Saved items are private. Saving a notice does not preserve access if it becomes unavailable, and deleting a saved item does not delete the notice. You can manage your account and request deletion in account settings.
Does a directory listing mean a funeral director has a verified account?
No. An active business listing may be unclaimed. An authorised representative can use Claim this listing or Apply for a listing. Publishing control is granted only after independent verification, not merely because a business is listed.
What happens when I send a funeral director an enquiry?
Read the recipient information on the enquiry form, especially for an unclaimed listing. A reference confirms that Eternal Rest saved your enquiry; it does not confirm email delivery, that someone has read it, or a booking. For urgent arrangements, contact the business directly using its current contact details.
Sharing, Maps & Photos
Is my family notice automatically posted to social media?
No. Managed sharing requires separate consent for the available destination and a public eligible notice. You can manage or revoke that consent through the private sharing controls. Removal of an existing external post requires verification and may remain pending; revocation is not proof that a post has disappeared.
What if my venue is missing or the map is wrong?
Use a saved venue or enter the service name and address manually. Manual text can remain in the notice while a requested map location is checked. A map pin appears only when the location is confirmed; do not assume that a submitted address or proposed pin has been verified. Check arrangements with the funeral director or organiser.
Can I leave a photo or report a contribution?
Where the photo wall is open, you can submit one photo with your name and permission to share it, without an account. Supported photos include HEIC/HEIF; the browser prepares a preview before the server independently checks the upload. Only approved photos appear publicly. Text and photo controls are separate.
Use Report on an available contribution to request review. Reporting does not automatically hide it. An authorised correction shows an Edited label; rejected or withdrawn contributions are unavailable publicly.
About Eternal Rest
About & Practicalities
Who runs Eternal Rest?
Eternal Rest is an independent Trinidad and Tobago platform for death notices, family notices, condolences, and the Candle Wall. We are not a funeral director and have no direct involvement in funeral arrangements — those are handled by the funeral director listed on each notice.
Can I watch a funeral livestream?
If a funeral is being livestreamed, the link is included in the death notice (usually in the arrangements section). If you cannot find a link, contact the funeral director — their details are at the bottom of the notice. Some livestreams are recorded; the funeral director can tell you whether a recording is available.
How do I contact Eternal Rest?
The published support address is info@eternalrest.com.tt. Do not send payment credentials, passwords or private resume/receipt links. We do not promise a fixed response time. For funeral arrangements, use the current contact details of the funeral director handling the notice.
